Hopewell Valley/Montgomery hockey salute to service

by Tracy Vogler

The Hopewell Valley Montgomery Ice Hockey team hosted their 8th annual Salute to Service game at the Lawrenceville School on January 21, 2003. The game, honoring local service members, was part of the team’s tradition of service projects. A portion of the proceeds is earmarked for local veterans groups. This year, on June 11, seniors Bobby Ruger (Captain), Ryan Morici (Alternate Captain), Liam Yeoman (Alternate Captain), Jackson Brennan, and Billy Ruger, along with Alternate Captain Matt Greenspoon and Coach Jeff Radice, presented a check for $1,000 each to Col. Ken Baker of the Hopewell Valley Veterans Association and Dmitra Bairaktaris of the Montgomery Veterans Memorial Committee.

The HVM Bulldogs plan to continue the tradition next year. Win or lose, this game offers an opportunity for the team and the Hopewell Valley and Montgomery communities to show their appreciation for our service members who have sacrificed for our country. The team wishes to thank all who supported this event and the men and women who serve.
