Last week, the 1992 Peterbilt S&S Tanker 53 from the Union Fire Company was officially placed out of service and was donated to the New Jersey State Fireman’s Museum in Allentown, New Jersey.
The tanker served Hopewell Valley for more than 30 years and was capable of carrying 3,500 gallons of water to a fire. It was replaced two years ago due to wear and tear and escalating maintenance costs.
Chief Kurt Pederson said: ”This tanker has served us well and I’m sorry to see her go, but knowing that it will live on at the State Museum and that it will be on display for generation to visit pleases me.”
The tanker will be on permanent display at the museum as a part of rural firefighting history.
