The former AMC movie theater property at 325 Sloan Avenue in Hamilton has been sold to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), marking the start of what local officials hope will be a major step forward in pediatric healthcare access for families across Central New Jersey.
According to the announcement, Hamilton Township and Mercer County are working in partnership with CHOP to support the redevelopment process and ensure a smooth transition for the site. Planning is underway, with construction proposals to follow.
“Hamilton Township is excited to welcome CHOP to town,” said Mayor Jeff Martin. “As a parent to a young child, I know the concern of every parent for their child’s health, and having CHOP here in our backyard ensures the children of Hamilton will always have easy access to the best possible medical care. It has been great to partner with Mercer County and CHOP to make this first step a reality, and I am looking forward to our continued partnership through the redevelopment process.”
Mercer County Executive Dan Benson also expressed support for the project.
“Mercer County welcomes the news that a world-renowned healthcare institution like the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is coming to Hamilton Township and Mercer County,” Benson said. “I was proud to work closely with Mayor Martin and with CHOP to turn an idea into reality and breathe new life into the old AMC site, while bringing good-paying jobs to our community and improving the health of our region’s children.”
CHOP, which serves families throughout the region and internationally, emphasized that the move aligns with its mission to provide care close to home.
“Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia serves children from throughout the region and around the world with the aim to make pediatric care available as close to home as possible,” said Madeline Bell, CEO of CHOP. “The health of New Jersey’s children is a key component of our overall mission, and we’re looking forward to the future of bringing high-quality care, expanded services and improved convenience to the families of Central New Jersey and the broader region. This step underscores our commitment to ensure healthier futures for all children.”
Further details about the site’s future use and facility plans will be released as the redevelopment process progresses.
