by Community Contributor

A commercial building fire on Reed Road prompted evacuations and a multi-agency response Tuesday morning, sending one person to the hospital with smoke inhalation injuries, according to township officials.

Police received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 11:03 a.m. reporting smoke coming from a business complex at 1613 Reed Road, where officers arriving on scene observed smoke billowing from the eaves of a commercial structure and began evacuating the building and surrounding area.

Fire crews under the command of Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Chief Jonathan Moore responded and began suppression efforts. Assisting agencies included the Hopewell Fire Department, Pennington Fire Department, Union Fire Company, Lawrence Township Fire Department, West Trenton Fire Department, Ewing Fire Department, Hopewell Emergency Medical Unit, Capital Health EMS, and Princeton First Aid.

The building was occupied at the time of the fire and sustained significant damage. One employee was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and later transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Detective Christopher Collins and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services.
