Construction is expected to begin this week on a natural gas infrastructure replacement project that will affect more than a dozen roads in Hopewell Township.
Hopewell Township officials announced that Elizabethtown Gas plans to begin work on or about Monday, July 20, as part of the utility’s ongoing pipeline replacement program. According to Elizabethtown’s website, the primary project impacting the streets listed right now will focus on the Dublin Road and Washington Crossing-Pennington Road area, with work also occurring on several nearby neighborhood streets.
According to Elizabethtown Gas, the project will replace aging natural gas mains with new plastic pipe and, in many cases, relocate gas meters from inside homes and businesses to the outside while replacing service lines between the street and buildings. The company said moving meters outdoors improves safety, provides easier emergency access and simplifies future maintenance.

- Morningside Court
- Morningside Drive
- Washington Crossing-Pennington Road
- Corrine Drive
- Ingleside Avenue
- Jacobs Creek Road
- Johnstone Drive
- North Road
- Reed Road
- Scotch Road
- Stoutsburg Boulevard
Township officials said residents, emergency responders, school buses, garbage trucks and other essential vehicles will continue to have access during construction.
Elizabethtown Gas said the work is part of its ongoing effort to modernize its natural gas distribution system, which serves more than 320,000 customers across northern and central New Jersey. The company said it works to minimize disruptions to homeowners and businesses during construction.
