Good Afternoon HVRSD Family,

We hope that you had a restful weekend with your family and friends. We look forward to seeing our students and staff back in the buildings tomorrow. As you may have heard in recent news coverage, COVID-19 is on the rise. The Omicron and Omicron XE variants are transmitted very quickly. As a result, we have moved back into a moderate transmission range in our community (Yellow).

While we are still in a mask optional phase, we highly recommend that staff and students opt to wear masks, practice good hygiene and closely monitor themselves for symptoms. If a staff member or student is exhibiting symptoms they should stay home and reach out to your school nurse for guidance before you return to the building.

Many of the recent in school cases we have seen are due to staff and/or students coming to school with symptoms. This may cause other students and staff members to have to quarantine or isolate due to exposures. Please don’t assume that symptoms are allergies or a cold. We recommend taking a home test to rule out COVID-19 prior to returning to our buildings. If we are going to avoid outbreaks and a return to mandatory masking, we will need to work together as a school community.

Lastly, there have been some questions regarding the Memorial Day Weekend. It is still a four day weekend unless we have a school closure due to weather.

Enjoy the rest of your long weekend and don’t forget to get outdoors to enjoy nature. Happy Earth Week!

Regards,
Rosetta D. Treece, Ed.D.Superintendent of Schools
