Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on Rt. 31

On Monday, May 12, 2025 at 7:09 PM, Hopewell Township Police officers were dispatched to Pennington Road (State Highway Route 31) in the area of Interstate 295 for a reported serious motor vehicle crash involving a motorcyclist.  

Multiple Township Police Officers, Pennington Borough Police and Ewing Township Police, along with Pennington Fire Department and Capital Health EMS/ALS responded to the scene to assist.   

The initial investigation showed that the 23-year-old driver of a Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling northbound on Pennington Road and attempted to change lanes in the area of the Interstate 295 North off ramp. The motorcyclist struck the rear of a GMC pickup truck, driven by a 26-year-old Hopewell Township man, which was traveling Northbound in front of the motorcyclist. During impact, the motorcyclist was ejected. Pennington Road was closed for approximately 3 hours, while the scene was cleared.  

As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist succumbed to serious injuries and was pronounced deceased. The driver of the GMC pickup was not injured.    

The crash is being investigated by Officer Paul Alvaro and Detective Michael Makwinski of the Hopewell Township Police Department along with detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
