Fire Departments Battle Brush Fire in Hopewell Township

by Seth Siditsky

There is a large brush fire in Hopewell Township burning near Poor Farm Rd. and Woosamonsa Rd. The township police have asked people to avoid the area and expect significant delays, especially around Rt 31 and Woosamonsa Rd.

As of about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 2 the approximately 75 acre fire was about 40% contained according to Hopewell Township and the Office of Emergency Management. NJ Forestry was setting backfires to extinguish the wind-drive fire on Pennington Mountain. It is still possible to see fire from the area, and fire units remain onsite actively monitoring the situation. Residents should only call 9-1-1 if the fire gets close to your house.

Operations are expected to continue throughout the night and into Sunday.

This is a developing story.
