A Hamilton man has been sentenced to 46 years in state prison after being convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a juvenile over a 10-year period, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
On July 28, Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert E. Lytle sentenced Jose Membreno-Aguilar, 51, to an aggregate term of 46 years in state prison. Under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, he must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to parole supervision for life.
A Mercer County jury found Membreno-Aguilar guilty on March 10 of 10 counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The victim testified during the two-week trial, describing a continuing course of sexual abuse. The prosecutor’s office did not release additional details to protect the victim’s privacy.
The investigation was led by detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hamilton Police Division, with assistance from Robbinsville police and a sexual assault nurse examiner.
