Hopewell Police Respond to Vehicle Burglary, Liquor Theft, and Major Fraud Incident

Capital Health Reports Theft of $40 Worth of Food from Cafeteria

On July 8, Officer Vincent Amabile responded to Capital Health Hopewell Campus for a report of theft from the cafeteria. The site manager reported that two unidentified female parties stole various items and left without payment. The total value of the food items was reported as $40. The incident is under investigation.

Packages Worth Over $3,400 Stolen from Woodmont Forge Mail Room

On July 12, Officer Amabile responded to Forge Circle in Pennington for a reported theft of packages from the secured mail room. The manager on site reported that 14 packages were stolen from a secured package delivery area of the complex. The total amount of reported stolen items was listed as $3,410.07. The theft took place between 7/5 and 7/11. The investigation is ongoing.

Active Warrant Leads to Arrest of Unwanted Person on North Route 31

On July 12, Officer Amabile responded to a North Route 31 address for a reported unwanted person on the property. Contact was made with the accused party, who was later identified. Upon contact, the individual was found to have an active NCIC warrant for arrest out of Mercer County. They were arrested onsite and transported to HTPD for processing and were later transported and turned over to Mercer County Correctional Center in default.

Elm Ridge Resident Reports $27,500 Diamond Earrings Stolen Post-Cleaning

On July 13, Sgt Mark Panzano responded to an Arvida Drive address for a reported theft. The victim reported that diamond earrings were stolen from the residence and they were found to be missing after a cleaning service left the residence. The theft reportedly took place between 7/11 and 7/13. The total value of the stolen jewelry was reported as $27,500. The investigation is ongoing.

Hopewell Resident Loses $38,000 in Computer Freeze Scam

On July 16, Officer George Peterson met with the victim of fraud in the HTPD lobby. The victim reported they received an alert on their computer stating the computer was frozen and to contact a phone number to fix the problem. The victim called the number and was ultimately defrauded out of $38,000. The suspect was able to direct the victim to create a bitcoin depot account and deposit funds into the account to purchase cryptocurrency. The investigation is ongoing.

Car Burglary at Capital Health, No Items Stolen

On July 16, Officer James Stanton responded to Capital Health – Hopewell Campus for a reported vehicle burglary. The victim reported that their vehicle was broken into, but there were no items of value inside and nothing was taken. The victim found the vehicle with a broken door handle and evidence that entry was made inside. Surveillance video is being turned over to police as the investigation is active.

Shoplifter Caught and Arrested for Stealing Liquor in Hopewell

On July 20, Officer Maria Gavdanovich responded to the Super Buy Rite Liquor Store for a reported shoplifting. Employees reported an unidentified male stole two bottles of Don Julio Anejo from the store. Surveillance video of the incident was provided to Officer Gavdanovich. Through the surveillance video, the suspect was identified, contacted, and arrested at HTPD. The individual was processed and later released. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
