Last week, Hopewell Township Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning and Deputy Mayor Michael Chait joined Carvel owner Henry Wong to celebrate the store’s participation in PSE&G’s energy efficiency program. Wong sought to lower energy costs while improving in-store comfort—an effort that led to key upgrades in the shop’s heating and cooling systems.
Through the program, Wong replaced two aging and malfunctioning rooftop units with more efficient models, equipped with dual enthalpy economizers and smart start features. These enhancements allow the system to draw in cooler outside air to reduce air conditioning use—a process known as “free cooling.” Paired with self-learning smart thermostats that automatically adjust temperatures, the upgrades improved comfort for customers and staff while delivering significant energy savings.
The upgrades enhanced in-store comfort and increased energy savings—and, of course, the ice cream is delicious!
