Hopewell Township PD Investigates Fraud, DUIs, and Criminal Mischief Incidents

Fraudulent Unemployment Claim Filed Using Stolen Identity

On October 7, Officer Maria Gavdanovich met with the victim of fraud on Cleveland Road. The victim reported they received notification via mail from his company’s HR department stating that a claim with the Department of Labor was filed fraudulently using his identity. The victim stated that while checking through his documents at home, he realized his passport was lost / stolen. The last time he recalled having the passport in hand was in August of 2024. The victim was advised to continue to monitor his credit and banking statements going forward. As of this time, no monetary loss was sustained.

Driver Arrested for DUI and Multiple Warrants in Brandon Farms

On October 13, Officer George Peterson was dispatched to the intersection of Hedgecroft and Chicory for a suspicious vehicle parked with two occupants. Upon contact, the driver was found to be exhibiting physical signs of intoxication. The driver performed field sobriety tests roadside and was ultimately placed under arrest for DUI. Additionally, multiple arrest warrants were found in Pennington Borough, West Windsor Township, and Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for the driver who was arrested on scene and transported to HTPD for processing. The individual was later transferred to the custody of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.

Credit Card Fraud Reported After Unauthorized Fuel Purchases

On October 8, Officer Michael Crincoli met with the victim of fraud in the HTPD lobby. The victim reported that their credit card was used for numerous fraudulent and unauthorized purchased while out of the country. Between September 14 and 27, approximately $1200 in purchases were made in North Jersey — all for fuel at various gas stations. The matter is under investigation.

Criminal Mischief Suspected After Metal Found in Tire at Pennington Restaurant

On October 8, Officer Michael Enriquez met with the victim of Criminal Mischief in the HTPD lobby. The victim stated that they found a piece of metal in their vehicle’s tire and believed the incident was criminal mischief (not from the roadway). The victim stated that the vehicle was parked at Union Boil Co in Pennington during the evening of October 3. While in the restaurant, the victim received a notification on her phone stating her vehicle’s tire pressure was low. When she looked at the vehicle, she found a piece of metal sticking out of the side of the tire. The matter is under investigation.

Driver Charged with DUI and Assault by Auto After Crash 

On October 20, Officer Robert Voorhees responded to Trenton Harbourton Road / Woosamonsa Road for a reported motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers responded to emergency needs on scene for all occupants and began the investigation of the crash. One of the drivers was found to be under the influence at the time of the crash and was placed under arrest and charged with Assault by Auto, DUI, Reckless Driving, Traffic on Marked Lanes, Failure to Possess Drivers License / Reg / Insurance, and Failure to Inspection. The driver was later released. The matter will be heard in Superior Court.

Driver Arrested for DUI After Fleeing Scene of Crash On Denow Road

On October 20, Officer Blake DeMeter responded to Denow Road for a reported MV Crash, and the striking vehicle was said to be fleeing. He made observation of the fleeing vehicle while en route to the crash and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The driver was found to be under the influence at the time. After field sobriety testing on scene, the driver was arrested and transported to HTPD for processing. The driver was later released from custody and was charged with DUI and Reckless Driving, along with Leaving the Scene. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.
