Hopewell Township resident’s spare time is for the birds

by Community Contributor

Hopewell Township resident Mark Bean, vice president of compliance and operational risk manager at Merrill Lynch, has been selected as a 2023 Global Volunteer Award.

Bank of America’s Global Volunteer Awards recognize 80 employees (out of 200,000) who serve their communities exceptionally well through outstanding volunteerism. Merrill Lynch is a Bank of America company.

Bean’s volunteer journey started nearly a decade ago as he began becoming actively involved with ecological or environmental focused organizations in Hopewell Township. While his time at work is spent crunching numbers and overseeing compliance matters, when the work day is done, he educates the community on how to help preserve and protect land, inspiring others to be stewards of the land like his family.

Mark sits on the board of trustees and chairs the stewardship committee for the Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space, is an advisory board member for Hopewell Township’s Environmental Commission, and is an active member for the Wild Bird Research Group.

As a result of this honor, Mark was granted $1,000 from BofA to be donated to an organization of his choice. The donation will be going to the Wild Bird Research Group as the organization continues to conserve avian populations and their habitats through bird banding.
