Hopewell Valley Hosts Native Seed Sowing Extravaganza on January 17

by Community Contributor

Residents looking to jump-start their spring gardens are invited to Hopewell Valley’s Native Seed Sowing Extravaganza, a hands-on winter sowing event held Saturday, January 17 from 10am–1pm in the Hopewell Valley Central High School Community Room.

For just $5 each, participants can pick up done-for-you winter sowing jugs pre-filled with soil and native plant seeds—ready to take home, place outside all winter, and transplant in the spring. The event also includes access to educational materials and a Zoom session explaining the seeds being used and how winter sowing works.

Organizers encourage residents to RSVP in advance to receive the seed list and educational details. More information is available at: https://tinyurl.com/NativeSeeds2026

The event is hosted collaboratively by:
Hopewell, NJ Native Plant Swap; HVRSD ecoPTO; HVRSD Climate Action Committee; HVCHS YES Club; and the Hopewell Valley Community Wildlife Habitat Program.

The Native Seed Sowing Extravaganza is designed to help gardeners of all experience levels grow native species that support pollinators, wildlife habitat, and local ecosystems.
