This week, Samuel C. Wasch (Sam), age 11, expanded his service project, Happiness Through Cake, to include the local community, bringing smiles to those struggling with food insecurity by providing children and families with birthday cake kits.
In September, Sam collected more than 50 cake kits from his classmates at Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart. He delivered the kits to Home Front, who reported that their clients were so delighted with them that all the kits were gone in one day.
Sam said, “my mission is simple: to provide happiness through cake! But also to provide birthday cake kits to children and families who are experiencing homelessness, poverty, and/or food insecurity.”
Sam is now expanding for the holiday season. This drive will include holiday colored icing and sugar cookie decorating kits to bring some cheer to those in need. Sam is currently reaching out to local businesses to find locations for donation dropboxes. He also has established an Amazon gift list for anyone who wants to donate.
Happiness Through Cake was founded in 2023 by Samuel Wasch and his mother, Elizabeth. The idea for birthday cake kits came after a visit to the HomeFront Food Pantry. During a family discussion about HomeFront and Sam’s own birthday, Sam realized that many kids don’t get a birthday cake because they are very expensive. Sam stated, “I thought that it would be nice to provide people with the ability to make their own cakes, especially when they are struggling with other things that might seem or feel more important than a birthday cake.” Thus, Happiness Through Cake was born.
If you or someone you know is in need of a Birthday Cake- premade or otherwise- Sam will get one for the individual and arrange for delivery. He can be reached at [email protected] for any inquiries. To learn more, please go to the Happiness Through Cake website.
