Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler is inviting residents to safely dispose of unused and expired prescription medications during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 25.
The drive-up event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building, 640 South Broad St. in Trenton. Residents can drop off prescription pills with no questions asked.
The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to reduce the risks associated with keeping unused or potentially dangerous medications—particularly opioid painkillers—in the home.
“After the long-isolated winter, this is a good time to gather and dispose of any unused or expired prescription pills, especially dangerous opioid painkillers,” Kemler said.
In addition to pills, the event will accept vape pens and e-cigarette devices, provided batteries are removed. Syringes, sharp instruments, liquid medications, and solutions will not be accepted.
