
This week the Hopewell Valley Central High School Swim team had two swim meets, however one was a co-ed meet against Ewing and was only scored for the boys swim team. On Thursday, the Hopewell Girls swam against a tough opponent, West Windsor-Plainsboro South, in a close meet but lost 98-72. For the individual events, Amelie Bass placed first in the 200 yard Individual medley (2:06.75) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.37), Ava D’Alessandro won the 50 yard freestyle (26.53), and Emilie Sawicki finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.10). D’Alessandro also placed second in the 100 yard freestyle, Anna Wurtz placed 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle, and May Hartog placed 2nd in the 100 yard backstroke. The Bulldogs also won the 200 yard freestyle relay (Bass, Kelley Dwyer, Wurtz and D’Alessandro, 1:51.06) by 1/100 of a second in an extremely exciting race. Additionally, Hopewell placed second in the 200 yard medley relay (Hartog, Sawicki, Claire Christie and Dwyer, 2:05.83) and the 400 yard freestyle relay (D’Alessandro, Christie, Wurtz and Bass, 4:05.52). The Hopewell Boys Swim Team swam in two meets, winning one and losing the other. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs participated in a co-ed meet against Ewing, winning 127-39. The meet included some great swims from both the boys and the girls, and many first places. In the 200 medley relay, Joseph Genovesi, Anna Wurtz, Alex Helmrich, and Ava D’Alessandro placed first to start the meet off strong, followed by firsts from Claire Christie in the 200 free, Helmrich in the 200 IM, Owen Seibold in the 50 free, Helmrich in the 100 fly, Chris Sawicki in the 100 free, and Tyler Mac in the 500 free. Additionally, D’Alessandro, Emilie Sawicki, and Lilly Henderson swept the 100 back, and Alex Nicolai, Julia Szymanik, and Caitlin Lynch swept the 100 breaststroke.
On Thursday, the boys took a tough loss against West Windsor-Plainsboro South by a score of 101-68, but the meet featured many close and exciting races. Genovesi, Seibold, Pavel Sverdlov, and AJ Yadamiec took first in the 200 medley relay, and Chris Sawicki placed first in the 50 free. Helmrich took first in the 500 free and Seibold placed first in the 100 breaststroke. In the 200 free relay, Sawicki, Yadamiec, Mac, and Helmrich took first by only 0.12 seconds. The Bulldogs finished out the second week of their season with a 2-1 record. -Emilie Sawicki
