The Hopewell Valley Central High School (CHS) girls’ basketball team hosted the Steinert Spartans for the Mercer County tournament last Wednesday. Fueled by Ally Oldfield’s 24 points (6 three pointers), the Bulldogs cruised to a 45-31 win.Those three pointers added to Oldfield’s school record.Maddie Schrader added 10 points.Steinert leading scorers were Chrysten Wood with 9 points and Nicole Pappas and Hope Mauro with 8 points each.
At the game, the Hopewell Basketball Association held their first Free Throw and Three Point contests to raise funds for both programs.This year’s winners include Delainey Ross, Cara Laitusis,Michael Whitlock, Joe Triano, Sabrina Schrader, Brendan O’Reilly, Ryan Kuuskvere, and Charlie Olin.
Friday brought on the quarterfinals of the Mercer County Tournament as Stuart Country Day School played host to Hopewell Valley. Stuart w too strong for Hopewell as they overpowered the Bulldogs to 51-23 victory.Led by Laila Fair (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Ariel Jenkins (11 points, 13 rebounds), Stuart will face Notre Dame in the Mercer County Tournament semi-finals. Ally Oldfield led the Bulldogs with 9 points. The next game for the Hopewell Valley girls will be at Ewing in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 3 tournament, Monday February 24, at 5:30.
