Hopewell Valley Central High School

This week, the Hopewell Valley Girls Volleyball played a first round NJSIAA state playoff game against Holmdel, winning in two sets, 25-19, 25-17. The game featured some incredible hits from outsides Sofie Ragins and Emilie Sawicki, as well as multiple blocks from middles Sydney Brown and Faith Dunham. Opposite Charlotte Catlett also helped the team with two blocks and a kill, and setter Zoe Kitson contributed with countless assists. In the back row, Megan Silberberger and Michaela Kwak helped with some incredible saves and digs. With the win, the Bulldogs will face off against Raritan in the Central Jersey Group 2 quarterfinals on Monday. -Emiie Sawicki

On Tuesday, the Hopewell Valley Boys Soccer team played in the semifinals of the Mercer County Tournament against Pennington. Pennington came out strong and the Bulldogs were flat, which led to Pennington scoring goals at will in the first half. They put in one after the other with a score of 5-0 at halftime. Hopewell played better in the second half, not conceding a goal, but was unable to score one either, losing the game 5-0 to Pennington.

Knocked out of the Mercer County Tournament, Hopewell played only one other game this week, a makeup against Nottingham. The Bulldogs played much better in this game, scoring goals at will in the first half to build up a 7-0 lead at the half. It remained this way until the end of the game, with neither team giving up another goal. Goals were scored by Austin Warren, Dean Digiacomo, Richie Kiefer, Gunnar Cassano, Kamil Moisionek, Nick Tagliareni and Alex Tagliareni.

The state tournament begins on Monday against Brick Township, with Hopewell seeded first in the Central Jersey Group 3 bracket.-Christopher Sawicki

Hopewell Valley Timberlane Middle School

Last week the Timberlane Middle School Boys A  soccer team wrapped up their season with a series of three victories: 3-0 over Community MS on Monday, 1-0 over Thomas Grover MS on Wed, and an 8-1 victory over Princeton Day School on Thursday.

These wins put the cap on an amazing season where the boys stayed undefeated with a record of 11-0, including 9 shutouts. They outscored their opponents by a combined total of 52-3, with over half of the team finding the back of the net. The defense and goalkeeper played lights out, consistently shutting down the other teams and limiting their opportunities.

All in all, the season was a great team effort and the future looks bright as these boys move on to High School next year! -Brandon Foy
