Connor Plarre and Ben Thompson blocking against Pinelands in the Moorestown Tournament

This week the Hopewell Valley Central High School Boys Volleyball team played their first match of the season against Burlington Township, winning 2-1 despite not having their starting setter and opposite.

The boys started off slowly and ended up losing the first set by a score of 25-19. In the second set, they found a rhythm and maintained this into the third set, taking both 25-17 to win the match. Armaan Desai had a great game with nine kills and a block, as did Larry Kennedy who recorded four kills and four blocks. Ben Thompson had 21 assists, Eli Miller had four kills, Christopher Sawicki and Eimantas Srogis recorded two kills apiece, and Vincent Huang had seven digs for the Bulldogs.

On Saturday the Bulldogs played in the Moorestown Tournament, facing Jackson Memorial, Donovan Catholic, Teaneck, Pinelands, Clearview and West Windsor-Plainsboro North in the preliminary round. In the seeded bracket, Hopewell defeated Pennsauken and Rancocas Valley but fell to Donovan Catholic. – Christopher Sawicki
