Monday Sports Update

The Hopewell Valley boys volleyball team had a successful week, winning three out of four games. On Tuesday, the boys faced Collingswood, winning an extremely competitive game 2-1 (29-31, 25-19, 25-22). Over the course of the game, Armaan Desai and Larry Kennedy contributed heavily on offense, racking up 14 kills each over the three sets, aided by setter Saahith Kusupudi. Eli Miller, Chris Sawicki, and Nick Lange all tallied 3 kills each as well. On defense, Vincent Huang, Finn Murray-Campbell, and Kennedy controlled the back row, helping the team earn the victory by compiling digs. In addition, Sawicki and Desai helped defend at the net through blocking. 

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs played Hillsborough, falling 0-2 (21-25, 11-25).  The boys struggled to set up a strong offense, but Sawicki and Desai were still able to rack up 4 kills each, and Kennedy earned 3 as well. Libero V. Huang and setter Kusupudi recorded several digs each, but unfortunately, the Hillsborough offense was very tough to defend. The Hillsborough service game was outstanding, contributing to the Bulldog’s loss.

On Thursday, Hopewell played the West Windsor-Plainsboro South Pirates, taking an exciting 2-0 win (25-20, 26-24). The game was very competitive and intriguing, and the second set even ended in a Hopewell comeback to win the match. In the first set, the Bulldogs struggled with serving, totaling 7 service errors. However, they were able to take the first set with 2 kills from Eiman Srogis, 2 kills from Kennedy, and 1 from Desai. In addition, Miller and Desai earned 1 block each. In the second set the Bulldogs came back stronger. Assisted by setter Kusupudi, Desai earned 5 kills, Kennedy earned 4, and both Miller and Srogis earned 2. Vincent Huang and Leo Huang controlled the back row on defense, helping the team to secure the win.

On Friday, the boys beat Burlington City 2-0 (25-14, 25-8). Kennedy, Connor Plarre, Paul Warznak, Srogis, Sawicki, and Desai all contributed on offense by earning kills. In addition, Desai earned 3 blocks over the course of the match. The Bulldogs also showed a strong serving game, with Kusupudi, Desai, V. Huang, Srogis, and Kennedy all earning service aces. -Emilie Sawicki
