Monday Sports Update

This week, the Hopewell Valley Girls Swim Team won theirmeet against Notre Dame 107-63. In the 200 IM, Reagan Sherman placed first (2:24.06) and Claire Christie took second (2:40.27). In the100 fly, Shriya Karthikvatsan placed first (1:10.29) and Amelie Bass placed second (1:12.06). In the 500 free, Anna Wurtz took first (6:12.32) and Emilie Sawicki took second (6:42.21). Lilly Wurtz, Ava D’Alessandro, Sawicki, and Bass took first in the 200 free relay (1:53.63) and Bass, Sherman, Karthikvatsan, and D’Alessandro placed first in the 400 free Relay.

The week before, Hopewell faced a tough loss against Lawrence, 82.5 – 87.5. Lilly Wurtz, Emilie Sawicki, Reagan Sherman and Ava D’Alessandro took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:03.09. In the 50 free, D’Alessandro placed first (26.96) and L. Wurtz took second (28.42). Shriya Karthikvatsan placed 2nd in both the 200 IM (2:27.21) and the 100 free (1:01.70), while Claire Christie placed 2nd in the 100 fly (1:15.72) and Sawicki placed 2nd in the 100 breast (1:16.67). Sherman, Anna Wurtz and Christie took 2nd (5:25.15), 3rd (6:15.40), and 4th (6:26.23) respectively in the 500 free. Despite the great times, the girls narrowly lost by 5 points.-Emilie Sawicki

On Tuesday March 12, the Hopewell Valley Boys Swim Team had a meet against Hightstown, losing 102-68. Alex Helmrich placed first in the 500 yard freestyle (5:36.20) and 2nd in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.09). Owen Seibold finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:14.54). Hopewell also placed first in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming 1:55.03 (Christopher Sawicki, Seibold, Alex Nicolai, Helmrich). Hopewell finished second in the 200 yard freestyle relay, swimming 1:50.40 (Seibold, Thomas Montonari, AJ Yademic, Michael Genovesi), as well as the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:50.69 by Helmrich, Sawicki, Genovesi, Nicolai). Nicolai came in second place the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.48) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.14). Sawicki placed second in the 50 yard freestyle (24.63) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.07).

On Tuesday March 19, the boys swam against Notre Dame, falling 106-64. Sawicki placed first in the 50 yard freestyle (24.35). Nicolai came in first in the 100 yard butterfly (59:06) and second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:17.27). Hopewell also placed first in the 200 yard freestyle relay, swimming 1:40.46 (Nicolai, Sawicki, Montonari, Helmrich). Hopewell finished second in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming 1:49.70 (Pavel Sverdlov, Seibold, Montonari, Yademic) as well as the 400 yard freestyle relay (4:09.41 by Helmrich, Nicolai, Sawicki, Seibold). Helmrich placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.32) and in the 500 yard freestyle (5:25.74). -Christopher Sawicki
