On Friday June 21, 2024 at 3:29pm, Hopewell Township Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of South Route 31 and Ingleside Avenue for a reported serious crash.
Multiple HTPD officers, along with Pennington Fire Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Unit, Capital Health EMS and Hopewell Emergency Medical Unit responded to the scene where three drivers were injured.
The initial investigation shows that the 17-year-old driver of a Jeep was traveling East on Ingleside Avenue and did not stop prior to attempting to cross State Highway 31. The Jeep then struck a Mazda, being driven by a 28-year-old Hamilton, NJ man, which was traveling South on South Route 31 and had the right of way. The collision forced the Mazda to strike a full-size Ford pickup truck towing a large trailer loaded with a boat, which was traveling North on South Route 31. The impact with the Mazda caused the truck to jackknife and become disabled. The Ford was being driven by a 49-year-old Miami, Florida man. Route 31 was closed for approximately one and a half hours, while the scene was cleared.
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Mazda suffered from non-life-threatening injuries to his abdomen and legs. The driver of the Ford suffered from non-life-threatening injuries to his left arm and left side ribs. The driver of the Jeep may have suffered from a concussion.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Jonothan Pauciullo and Detective Christopher Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department.
