The Hopewell Valley YMCA and the Hopewell Indian Community are teaming up once again to host Navratri Dandiya Dance Night, a lively evening of music, dance, food, and fundraising for the Hopewell Valley Mobile Food Pantry.
The celebration will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Timberlane Middle School (the location was moved from the High School). Guests can enjoy live music from Nisarg Chokshi, dance to traditional Dandiya rhythms, and food trucks will be on site including The Mexi Boys and Nimbu Indian Street Food. Jewelry and clothing vendors will also be on site.
Navratri is a nine-day festival widely celebrated across India in honor of the goddess Durga, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Dandiya is one of the signature dances of the festival, performed with colorful sticks and lively steps. Organizers emphasized that the Hopewell Valley event is not only for those familiar with Indian traditions, but for everyone in the community.

“This event is done by the community, for the community, in the community,” said Uma Purandare, one of the organizers. “We want everyone to feel welcome — not just those familiar with Navratri. It’s about bringing people together while supporting the pantry.”
“We are excited once again to be part of the Dandiya Night,” said Hopewell Valley Mobile Food Pantry Director Joe Lawver. “Last year was so much fun, and the Indian community welcomed everyone. I have two left feet, yet people patiently taught me the dance steps and stick work. I encourage everyone to come, enjoy the event, and support the pantry.”
Net proceeds from the night will benefit the Hopewell Valley Mobile Food Pantry, which continues to serve local families in need.
