Remembering the World Trade Center Steel at Hopewell Valley’s 9/11 Memorial

by Mike Chipowsky

In the early morning hours of August 16, 2011, a group of volunteers left Hopewell Valley and traveled to Hanger 17 at JFK Airport in New York. The purpose of the trip was to take possession of a 10 ton piece of steel that had been recovered from the World Trade Center following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

After the steel was loaded, it was returned to Hopewell Valley under NJ State Police escort.

Thanks to all of you, this steel became the centerpiece of the Hopewell Valley September 11th and Emergency Services Memorial at Woolsey Park.
