Retiring Emergency Services Chief Receives Official Honor

At the December 16 meeting of the Hopewell Township Committee, a proclamation was read thanking Chief Matthew Martin of Hopewell Valley Emergency Services for his 34 years of dedicated service to the residents and visitors of Hopewell Township.

Martin began his career in public safety as a teenager with the Pennington Fire Company. Over his 26-year career, Martin rose through the ranks, earning the respect of colleagues and community members for his dedication and leadership.

PROCLAMATION
The proclamation, read in part by all members of the Hopewell Township Committee, praised Martin for all of his work to help make Hopewell Township a safe place to live, work and visit. Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning spoke of the Chief as “a young man dedicated to public service who rose through the ranks” to command his department.

CHARACTER & CAREER
Several members of the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services community also spoke with admiration about Martin’s character and career. “Matt Martin has always placed his community above his wants and needs tirelessly giving his all to the betterment of his town,” Fire Commissioner and former Hopewell Fire Department Chief Joseph Novak said.

Chief Martin’s official retirement date is December 31, 2024. Deputy Chief of Emergency Services Jonathan D. Moore will be sworn in as the new Chief on January 2, 2025.
