Rt. 29 closed at Church – update: tree falls on motorist

by Amie Rukenstein

As of 8:36 am on July 18, Rt. 29 north is closed at Church Road. The police officer directing traffic stated that there is a bad accident that is being cleared. We assume that southbound is closed at Fidlers Creek or Pleasant Valley as well so all traffic is diverted.

Update from HTPD

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 8:16 AM, Hopewell Township Police units were dispatched to a single car motor vehicle crash on Route 29, near Fiddlers Creek Road. Officers arrived on scene and found that the vehicle had been struck by a fallen tree.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance from the scene for further medical evaluation and treatment.

The initial investigation indicates that the vehicle was in motion traveling southbound on Route 29, just south of Fiddlers Creek Road when a tree fell onto the roof of the vehicle.

The crash is being investigated by Officer George Peterson and Detective Chris Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department, as well as the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Route 29 will be closed between Church Road and Fiddlers Creek Road for an extended period of time due to the investigation and roadway cleanup.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact Detective Chris Collins at 609-737-3100 ext. 5790. The crash remains under investigation
