A late two-run homer sealed the deal for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers as they edged the Trenton Thunder, 7–5, on Saturday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, evening the weekend series at one game apiece.
The Scrappers recorded 11 hits and took advantage of a key Thunder error in the middle innings to help fuel their win.
Trenton jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, when Connor Maryniak singled home Jackson Tucker to make it 1–0. But Mahoning Valley responded with a two-run third inning and never looked back.
The Thunder rallied in the seventh, plating three runs to pull within 5–4, but the Scrappers answered in the top of the eighth with a clutch two-run blast to stretch their lead to 7–4. Trenton scratched across one more run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth, but the comeback bid fell short.
Third baseman Jackson Van De Brake earned Hyatt Regency Princeton Thunder Player of the Game honors, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The series concludes Sunday evening at 5 p.m., with Bark at the Park presented by Dogs & Cats Rule. One lucky fan and their dog will have a chance to win $10,000. For tickets, sponsorship opportunities, or more information, visit trentonthunder.com
