A talk examining how the American Revolution was viewed in Britain—including voices that supported the colonial cause—will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall, 80 West Broad Street, Hopewell. The program will also be available virtually via Zoom.
Titled “If New England We Conquer, Old England’s Undone: Some Unexpected Contemporary British Views of the American Revolution,” the presentation will be given by speaker Ian Burrow, who will discuss research he has conducted over many years on how events in America were perceived in Britain at the time of the Revolution.
While British reactions are often remembered for their hostility toward what were labeled “those damn’d Rebels,” Burrow’s research highlights a more complex picture. His talk will explore voices raised in support of the American cause, as well as acts of resistance to British policy that emerged within Britain itself.
Registration is required for both in-person and virtual attendance.
The program is co-sponsored by the Hopewell Museum, the Hopewell Valley Historical Society, and the Hopewell Public Library.
