Teamwork Brings Victory to the Hopewell Hurricanes

by Community Contributor

The Hopewell Hurricanes were unstoppable this weekend, defeating American United SS Barcelona from Elizabeth on Saturday and the St. John Vianney Pumas on Sunday.

Dylan Kawalek set the tone against Elizabeth early in the first half with fancy footwork that stunned the defense and left him open to score the team’s first goal. Logan Gonsalves scored the team’s second goal with a rocket that soared over the keeper’s head, and Ethan Garber scored the Hurricanes’ third goal after relentlessly following his own rebound. Patrick Slajchert, Michael Cappucci, and Jacob Berman would not let Elizabeth hold onto the ball, working tirelessly to keep it in Hurricanes’ territory. Keepers Jack Pachtinger and Kawalek didn’t let anything pass them, and the game ended 3-0.

On Sunday, Hurricane Archie Seas scored from the kickoff and then again, only minutes later, off a rebound from Ethan Garber. Trevor Baratta scored the team’s third goal, which was shortly followed by Jaxson DeRossett who scored the fourth. The Pumas rallied to score their first goal, which was quickly countered when Baratta scored his second of the game. In the second half, Baratta earned an assist when he passed to Snayhin Sharma in front of the net. Sharma catapulted the ball past the goalie to increase the score to 6-1. Jack Pachtinger scored the team’s next goal. The Pumas scored their second of the game, shortly followed by Seas’ hat-trick goal, his second hat-trick in as many weeks.
