The Hopewell Theatre returns!

by Brian Chin

The grand reopening of the Hopewell Theatre will be held on September 10 after being shuttered for more than a year and a half. Beginning at 6:30pm, the Theatre will be the site of a pre-show party followed by a celebratory concert by Hopewell’s own Danielia Cotton. Cotton, an acclaimed rock singer-songwriter, is sure to deliver an outstanding performance.

Sara Scully, the Theater’s co-founder, explained that following September 10, the community can expect regular “live music, comedy, improv, and independent films.” She added that the box office is now “open Monday-Friday for walk-up sales.”

For Scully, the reopening of Hopewell Theater is a massive event for the theater, artists, and the community. “We all realized over the past year that we need to come together, whether that be over live music, comedy, or a movie. To be together,” Scully stated.

Additionally, the reopening has truly been a community, state, and even federal effort. Scully explained, “We’ve nearly sold out our opening show! We’ve also gotten a lot of love on social media and on our reopening survey – 250 responses wrote comments along the lines of missing live shows and missing HT!”

State and federal programs have also been an enormous help for Scully and other performing arts venues. Specifically, Scully praises the “Federal Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) and New Jersey Community Stage Relief Grant Program.” She elaborated, “We are incredibly grateful to NJ’s leaders for supporting these various relief funding programs.  When it would have been easy to take the tried approach and say the arts come last, our legislators understood how vital our performing arts venues are to the overall health and well being of life in New Jersey.”
