Understanding Hopewell Valley
Hopewell Valley isn’t one town. It’s a community made up of three municipalities, one regional school district, and several historic villages. Understanding how they fit together can make it much easier to navigate local news, government, schools, and community life.
Hopewell Valley is made up of three independent municipalities: Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough, and Pennington Borough. Although they share the Hopewell Valley Regional School District and even some public services, each municipality has its own local government, elected officials, budget, and public meetings.
One of the most common sources of confusion is mailing addresses. A Pennington mailing address, for example, does not necessarily mean you live in Pennington Borough. Many homes with Pennington mailing addresses are actually located in Hopewell Township. The same is true for some Hopewell mailing addresses. Your mailing address and your municipality are not always the same.
Hopewell Township
Hopewell Township is the largest municipality in Hopewell Valley and surrounds both Hopewell Borough and Pennington Borough, like two donut holes within the township. It includes communities and neighborhoods such as Titusville, Brandon Farms, Harbourton, Mount Rose, and Woodsville, along with hundreds of acres of preserved open space, parks, trails, and farmland that help define the character of the area.
Many Township residents have Pennington or Hopewell mailing addresses, even though they live in Hopewell Township.
Hopewell Borough
Hopewell Borough is a small, historic municipality with a walkable downtown, locally owned businesses, restaurants, and community events. Although it is surrounded by Hopewell Township, it operates as its own municipality with an independent local government.
Pennington Borough
Pennington Borough is a historic municipality known for its walkable downtown, residential neighborhoods, and community character. Like Hopewell Borough, it is geographically surrounded by Hopewell Township but has its own municipal government and services.
The Hopewell Valley Regional School District serves students from all three municipalities. While Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough, and Pennington Borough each have their own local government, they come together to support one public school district, with a single elected Board of Education overseeing schools that serve the entire community.
