On Friday, September 13, at 2:57pm, Hopewell Township Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Crossing-Pennington Rd. (County Rt. 546) and Dublin Rd. for a reported serious crash.
Multiple HTPD officers, Pennington Borough Police, NJ State Park Police along with Pennington Fire Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Unit, Capital Health EMS/ALS and Ewing EMS responded to the scene where two occupants were injured.
The initial investigation shows that the 17-year-old driver of a Toyota was traveling South on Dublin Road and attempted to turn onto Washington Crossin-Pennington Road. The Toyota traveled into the path of a Ram pickup truck, being driven by a 36-year-old Ewing, NJ man, traveling west on Washington Crossing-Pennington Road. The pickup truck had the right of way. The collision forced both vehicles off the roadway where they came to rest in the grass shoulder. Washington Crossing-Pennington Road was closed for approximately two hours, while the scene was cleared.
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Toyota suffered from serious injuries. The front seat passenger, a juvenile female, suffered from non-life-threatening injuries. Both occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Mandy Grey and Detective Christopher Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department along with detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
