Zoom Talk Explores Hessian Officer’s Perspective on 1777 Attack at Fort Mercer

by Community Contributor

The North Jersey American Revolution Round Table will host its March meeting via Zoom on March 12 at 7 p.m.

The featured speaker will be Jim McIntyre of Moraine Valley Community College near Chicago, Illinois. His presentation, “A Soldier’s View: Johann Ewald and the Attack on Fort Mercer, October 22, 1777,” examines the Revolutionary War through the eyes of Hessian officer Johann Ewald.

The talk will focus on Ewald’s firsthand account of the failed Hessian assault on Fort Mercer at Red Bank. McIntyre will also discuss Ewald’s experiences in New Jersey during the Battles of Bound Brook and Monmouth, providing insight into the war from the perspective of a Hessian officer.

The program is free and open to the public.
