The 55 Plus Club of Princeton will host a presentation by local historian and author Barry Singer on Thursday, May 21 at 10 a.m., exploring the dramatic final days of 1776 that helped turn the tide of the American Revolution.
The program, titled “Princeton and the American Revolution: The 10 Crucial Days,” will be offered both in person at the Jewish Center of Princeton, 435 Nassau St., and virtually via Zoom through the organization’s website at princeton55plus.org.
Singer, a longtime volunteer with the Historical Society of Princeton, will discuss the desperate weeks at the end of 1776 when the Continental Army faced mounting challenges before crossing the Delaware River on Christmas night. The campaign led to three victories in 10 days, culminating in the Battle of Princeton on Jan. 3, 1777.
A Princeton-area resident for more than 30 years, Singer retired from a career in finance before pursuing his interest in Revolutionary War history full time. He has taught classes and led presentations at local libraries, senior centers and through Princeton University’s Community Auditing Program. For nearly two decades, he has also led historical walking tours in Princeton through his volunteer work with the Historical Society of Princeton.
The 55 Plus Club of Princeton has hosted bi-weekly lectures and discussions since 1986. The nonprofit, non-sectarian volunteer organization presents speakers on topics including history, politics, science, the humanities and the arts. Meetings are open to the public and free to attend, though a $5 donation is suggested.
