Hopewell Valley Central High School Presents Alice by Heart

by MercerMe Staff

Hopewell Valley Central High School proudly presents its winter musical, Alice by Heart, at the CHS Performing Arts Center on Friday, February 28; Saturday, March 1; Friday, March 7; and Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m.

A modern musical that premiered Off-Broadway in 2019, Alice by Heart features young characters navigating universal themes of coming of age, first love, and loss. With a contemporary pop/rock score by 90s pop musician Duncan Sheik, the show comes from the Tony® and Grammy® award-winning creators of Spring Awakening, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, along with co-writer Jessie Nelson (Waitress). The story follows a young girl seeking refuge in a London Tube station during WWII as she copes with grief, loss, and love through her favorite book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

“This production has been especially meaningful for our students because they deeply relate to the themes and journey of the story,” said CHS Director of Theater Katie Rochon Bartolacci. “They are playing characters their own age and truly understand what their characters are experiencing, even though the show is set during World War II.”

The cast features:

  • Alice – Michaela Linthorst
  • Alfred – Lewis Wasden
  • Red Cross Nurse / Queen of Hearts – Maddie Lynch
  • Angus / Caterpillar – Saylor Schoene
  • Tabatha / Cheshire Cat – Elise Granzow
  • Dodgy / Duchess – Matthew Golian
  • Harold Pudding / Mad Hatter – Andrew King
  • Dr. Butridge / King of Hearts / Jabberwocky – Luca Bario
  • Clarissa / Mock Mock Turtle / Queen of Diamonds – Amelia Hovey
  • Caterpillar 2 – Pri Malik
  • Nigel / Dormouse – Nathan Borgos

“At its core, this show is about the power of imagination and how it helps us endure difficult times,” said Rochon Bartolacci. “There’s something for everyone to connect with in this production—including the directors. We’ve all truly enjoyed bringing it to life.”

Join them down the rabbit hole at 7pm on February 28, March 1, March 7, and March 8! Tickets are available online or at the door at the Performing Arts Center at Hopewell Valley, 259 Pennington Titusville Road, Pennington, NJ.
