Communities across Hopewell Valley are preparing to mark Memorial Day 2025 with a full weekend of tributes, parades, music, and community celebrations. From solemn memorial services to decorated bicycles and live entertainment, the events honor the sacrifices of veterans while bringing everyone together.
Saturday, May 24 – Township Services and Woolsey Park Observance
The weekend begins Saturday morning with a series of cemetery and monument services conducted by the Hopewell Valley American Legion Post 339 between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Sites include:
- Harbourton Cemetery (9:00 a.m.)
- Titusville Methodist Church (approx. 9:25 a.m.)
- Titusville Presbyterian Church (approx. 9:45 a.m.)
- Pennington Methodist Church (approx. 10:15 a.m.)
At 11:00 a.m., the Hopewell Valley Veterans Association will host a community observance at the Veterans Memorial in Woolsey Park (221 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road). The ceremony includes a brick unveiling, military displays, refreshments, and a covered tent. All are welcome.
Sunday, May 25 – Hopewell Parade and Memorials
On Sunday morning, Post 339 continues its tributes with cemetery visits throughout Hopewell Borough:
- Highland Cemetery (9:00 a.m.)
- Stoutsburg Cemetery (approx. 9:25 a.m.)
- St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (approx. 10:10 a.m.)
- Hopewell Fire Department (approx. 10:25 a.m.)
- Old School Baptist Church (approx. 10:40 a.m.)
Hopewell Memorial Day Parade
The Hopewell Memorial Day Parade begins at 1:00 p.m. with lineup at 12:30 p.m. on Taylor Terrace. It concludes at Hopewell Elementary School with a memorial ceremony.
Bike Brigade: Children are encouraged to decorate bikes and ride in the parade. Participants should arrive at Taylor Terrace by 12:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 25 – Pennington Memorial Day Concert
That evening, Pennington’s Parks & Recreation Commission presents a Memorial Day Concert at 5:00 p.m. at Howe Commons (65 S. Main Street). The free outdoor performance will feature local musician Mike Tusay. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic gear for a relaxed evening with family and friends.
Monday, May 26 – Pennington Parade and Services
Pennington Borough services begin at 9:00 a.m. at:
- St. James Catholic Church (9:00 a.m.)
- Pennington Presbyterian Church (approx. 9:15 a.m.)
- Masons Lodge (approx. 9:30 a.m.)
- Pennington African Cemetery (approx. 9:45 a.m.)
- Old Sun Bank Monument (during parade)
Bike Brigade Contest – 10:15 a.m.
Ahead of the parade, Pennington’s popular Bike Brigade returns at Toll Gate Grammar School (275 S. Main Street). Judging begins at 10:15 a.m., with prizes for best bike, scooter, stroller or wagon, and best group. Local celebrity judges will be on hand, and all participants are invited to join the parade afterward.
Pennington Memorial Day Parade – 11:00 a.m.
The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. on Main Street. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to view the full procession and support participants.
