Pennington Borough officials announced this week that the long-running gas main installation through town has been completed, and final roadway restoration is now underway.
In an Oct. 14 notice to residents, Borough Administrator G.P. Caminiti said Elizabethtown Gas has finished installing the new gas main, marking the end of the project’s most disruptive phase. Crews will now begin milling and repaving all streets that were disturbed during the work, with completion expected by October 28, 2025, weather permitting.
Milling is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 16, at Blackwell Road and Lawrenceville Road in Hopewell Township and will continue north through the southern end of Pennington along South Main Street. The paving contractor will then move through additional sections of South Main Street and Abey Drive as early as Friday.
The Borough has issued detailed detour information to help residents navigate temporary closures. Access for residents, emergency vehicles, deliveries, and sanitation services will remain open throughout the work. Toll Gate Grammar School access will also remain available.
Caminiti thanked residents for their patience during the extended gas-main installation and said the final repaving should proceed “much more quickly than the gas main installation.”
Detour highlights include:
- South Main Street closed to through traffic from Pennington Road to East Welling Avenue during milling and paving operations.
- Boulevard section of South Main closed at several points, including near 413 S. Main St. and Toll Gate Grammar School.
- Abey Drive closed between East Curlis Avenue and East Delaware Avenue during later phases.
- Local residents may park on nearby streets, and emergency and municipal services will continue uninterrupted.
The Borough will post updates and schedule adjustments on its website at penningtonboro.org.
