The winter storm forecast for days ahead fully materialized across the Hopewell Valley over the weekend, blanketing the region with more than nine inches of snow and layering in periods of sleet and freezing rain that left roads covered in snow late into Sunday.
There was so much snow on the roads late Sunday afternoon that a snowmobile was spotted traveling down Bear Tavern Road, a reflection of just how quiet and impassable some local roads had become.
Schools across the region are closed today, including the Hopewell Valley Regional School District, giving crews a chance to clear the roads and families a chance to enjoy the snow.
Officials continue to urge caution as cleanup continues. Snow-covered and icy roads, low temperatures, and refreezing conditions mean travel can remain hazardous even after plowing. Residents are reminded to stay clear of plow trucks, avoid unnecessary travel, and take time clearing sidewalks and walkways safely.
