Hopewell Township seniors gathered for lunch, conversation and a little ice cream on a beautiful late-summer afternoon at Washington Crossing State Park last week.

The Township’s annual Senior Picnic was held Sept. 10, bringing members of the senior community together for an afternoon of food and socializing under the trees and around the park’s pavilion.
Township officials and employees traded their usual duties for serving spoons during lunch. Mayor David Chait, Township Committee member Courtney Peters-Manning, Police Chief James Rosso and members of the Hopewell Township Police Department joined firefighters and other Township employees in serving the meal and spending time with residents.
The picnic also gave seniors an opportunity to meet and talk informally with members of the Township’s police and fire departments.
Chait later took the microphone to hand out door prizes, while live music provided a soundtrack for the afternoon.
And there was dessert: a Mister Softee truck pulled up at the park, drawing a line of seniors for cones and other frozen treats.
The Township thanked the volunteers and donors who helped make the annual event possible and recognized Senior Services Coordinator Randi Malkiwiecz for organizing the picnic.
The gathering is one of the programs offered through Hopewell Township Senior Services, which provides activities, events and other resources for older residents.
