Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebrations

This email was sent to HVRSD families earlier this month:

Dear HVRSD Families:
The month of May is the annual celebration that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Island descent to the United States. The Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) includes the cultures from the entire Asian continent and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.  The month of May was designated AAPI month in 1979.
In honor of this month, HVRSD will be hosting New York Times bestselling author, Jean Kwok. She will be discussing her book Searching for Sylvie Lee on May 24 at 6pm (virtually).

For more information and to register for the event, please click on the link here.
Additionally, please find our AAPI Heritage Month website here. There are resources, book suggestions, as well as children’s book recordings by Ms. Adler’s 8th grade students. Moreover, here is the link to the district’s website honoring the various heritage month celebrations.

Many thanks,
Vicky Pilitsis
Director of Curriculum & Instruction
