Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announced that free, on-site child seat safety checks will continue this year at the Colonial Fire Company, located at 801 Kuser Road in Hamilton Township. Although the location is in Hamilton, this program serves all Mercer County residents, including parents and caregivers in Hopewell Valley, and is part of the Sheriff’s ongoing campaign to ensure children are properly secured in vehicles.
The program is partially funded by a grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety and features trained and certified Sheriff’s Officers who will check child seats for proper installation. Officers will also help determine if a child is in the correct seat for their age and size, ensuring their safety on the road.
“Let’s all get it right when it comes to a child’s safety,” said Sheriff Kemler. “It is important for parents, grandparents, and those expecting a child to know that their child is secure in their car seat and in the right seat for their size and age.”
For Hopewell Valley families, this program provides a convenient opportunity to have peace of mind while traveling with children. Inspections will be held from 5pm to 8pm on the last Tuesday of each month throughout 2025.

Please note there will be no inspections in December due to the holiday season. Inspections are conducted in a weather-protected area at the rear of the firehouse. Participants are asked to install their car seats before arrival and follow any health-related guidelines at the event.
