Fraud, theft, and disturbance cases under investigation in Hopewell Township

Fraudulent Business Uses Victim’s Address

On July 23, Officer Collin Brigham responded to a Park Lake address for a reported fraud. The victim reported that their address is being used by a “business”. The victim further explained that she has been receiving mail at her residence for a company identified as “Union Home Loan Titusville by Andrew”. There were multiple pieces of mail sent to the residence from different states around the Country. The victim was advised to continue to monitor their credit and banking accounts and to report any suspicious activity on either. In addition, the investigation into the incidents is active by Officer Brigham. There was no monetary loss reported by the victim.

$10,000 Stolen from Bank Accounts

On July 26, Officer Brigham met with the victim of fraud and theft in the Hopewell Township Police Department (HTPD) lobby. The victim reported that $3,000 was withdrawn from her checking account and another $7,000 was withdrawn from the savings account. The withdrawals occurred on July 17, 2024. The banking statements were provided to Officer Brigham for follow-up investigation, which show when and where the withdrawals took place. The investigation is active at this time.

Unemployment Fraud Attempt Reported

On July 26, Officer Brandon Kuzma met with the victim of fraud on the HTPD lobby who reported that an unidentified party attempted to access unemployment benefits in the victim’s name. The victim was notified of the incident by the New Jersey Department of Labor. The victim advised that the claim was invalid. There has been no financial loss at this time.

Maddock Road Disturbance Leads to Charges

On July 27, Officer Robert Voorhees responded to a Maddock Road address in Titusville for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, Officer Voorhees made contact with the accused who was allegedly throwing sticks into the road and at a vehicle traveling on the roadway. The driver of the vehicle stated that the accused threw sticks at and into his vehicle. The accused responded stated that the vehicle was speeding and headed toward a party on the same street. After investigation, Officer Voorhees charged the accused with Interference of Transportation. The charge was placed on a summons and the matter will be heard in Superior Court.

Shoplifting Suspects Steal Baby Formula

On August 1, Officer James Klesney responded to the Stop & Shop on Denow Road for a reported shoplifting. The suspects already left the scene at the time of the call. Klesney made contact with loss prevention who advised a male and female party entered the store and stole 8 containers of baby formula. The subjects fled in their vehicle. Images were provided to police on scene and the subjects were ultimately identified. Both were charged shoplifting and the matter will be heard in Superior Court.

$2,000 in Property Stolen from Pleasant Valley Front Yard

On August 2, Officer Vincent Amabile responded to a Pleasant Valley address for a reported theft. The theft occurred between August 1 and August 2. Reportedly taken from the front yard, items stolen included outdoor and indoor rugs, two bicycles, and a handbag. The total amount reported in loss was $2,353. The investigation is ongoing.

Bicycle Stolen from Orchard Avenue Shed

On August 2, Officer Paul Alvaro responded to an Orchard Avenue address for a reported theft. The victim reported that their son’s bicycle was stolen from their shed between July 20 and August 2. The bike was valued at $599. The investigation is ongoing.
