From the towns: announcement regarding special cannabis public forum 1/25

Edited on 1/19 at 9:29am to add: Hopewell Township Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning advised MercerMe this morning that this special forum is to discuss retail sales of cannabis in Hopewell Township. In August 2021, the Township Committee opted out of all cannabis industry entirely, in order to meet the State’s deadline for doing so. However, it can opt back in at any time. In December, cannabis manufacture/cultivation was allowed back in on a limited basis with HTC endorsement of the Stonehill Manufacturing facility at the former Hoch Farm. Pennington has allowed one medical and one retail cannabis establishment and Hopewell Borough, like Hopewell Township, initially opted out entirely in order to make the deadline.

Peters-Manning told MercerMe: “We spent a great deal of time in 2021 coming up with an ordinance for cannabis cultivation that included the strictest environmental and community protections. As we turn to considering allowing retail cannabis in Hopewell Township, the Township Committee wants to make sure that we allow the opportunity for plenty of community input, which is why we are holding this public forum. I hope that all interested residents come and express their opinions and concerns.” – AR
