Hopewell Township Police Respond To Thefts, DUIs, and Shoplifting Cases

iPhone Missing From Delivered Package Police Investigate Possible Theft

On October 24, Officer Ryan Finnegan met with the victim of theft in the Hopewell Township Police Department (HTPD) lobby. The victim reported that they ordered an Apple iPhone 16 Plus online through Xfinity, received the box, and signed for it on October 13. However, when the victim opened the box, the phone was missing, and the victim noticed brown tape on the bottom of the box that appeared out of place, as the phone was likely removed before or during delivery. The investigation is ongoing.

Shoplifting Suspect Steals $388 In Meds From Stop & Shop

On October 25, Officer Paul Alvaro responded to Stop & Shop for a report of a shoplifting incident on October 18. Loss prevention reported that a male subject entered the store, stole $388 worth of medications, and left the store without payment. The subject was captured on surveillance video and is a known previous offender of the same offense. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Driver Arrested For DUI And Multiple Traffic Violations On Ingleside Avenue

On October 26 at 3:06am, Officer Michael Enriquez stopped a vehicle for speeding on Ingleside Avenue. The black BMW was stopped and Officer Enriquez approached the window to identify the driver who showed signs of impairment and was asked to perform field sobriety testing. Once completed, the driver was placed under arrest for DUI, transported to HTPD for processing, and was later released from custody after being charged with DUI, reckless driving, speeding, failure to have inspection, failure to obey traffic signs, and traffic on marked lanes. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.

Political Lawn Sign Reported Stolen From Dublin Road Residence

On October 26, Officer James Stanton responded to a Dublin Road address for a reported stolen political lawn sign. The victim stated they last saw the lawn sign on October 25 and, when they returned to their residence from work on October 26, the sign was missing. The incident is under investigation, as there was a similar incident recently.

Intoxicated Driver Arrested In Stop & Shop Parking Lot

On October 28, Officer James Klesney responded to the Stop & Shop parking lot for a reported intoxicated party attempting to drive. Due to signs of intoxication, the individual was asked to exit her vehicle and perform field sobriety testing. The individual was then placed under arrest, transported to HTPD for processing, and charged with DUI and reckless driving. They were released from custody after service of summonses. The matter will be heard in Municipal Court.

Victim Reports $34K Stolen Through Unauthorized Bank Withdrawals

On October 30, Officer Vincent Amabile was detailed to the HTPD lobby for a victim who reported that money was stolen from his bank account. The victim said that between October 2 and October 21, multiple debits were placed on his account totaling $34,391. The victim did report the incident to his bank which advised him to report the incident to police. The investigation is ongoing.

Baby Formula Stolen From Stop & Shop Suspect Seen Boarding Bus

On October 30, Officer Maria Gavdanovich responded to Stop & Shop for a reported shoplifting that took place at 9:57am. A male party was seen on surveillance stealing baby formula and leaving the store without payment. It appears that the male left the scene via bus on Pennington Road. The total value stolen was $135.96. The investigation is ongoing.
