It’s Never Too Late: New Musical by 95-Year-Old Local Writer Takes the Stage in West Windsor

by Community Contributor
Lou DiPietro of Hightstown, playwright, and West Windsor, native Louis Josephson (currently of New York City), composer, of the new musical “It’s Never Too Late.”

A new musical exploring themes of hope, reinvention, and second chances will make its world premiere next month at Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre.

Theatre To Go will present a limited run of It’s Never Too Late, written by Hightstown resident Lou DiPietro with music by West Windsor native Louis Josephson, April 3 through April 12 at the West Windsor campus theater.

The production centers on the ripple effects of a brief encounter between two former lovers and how that moment shapes the lives of seven interconnected characters. Each faces unexpected challenges while navigating turning points in their personal journeys. The musical’s creators describe the story as both poignant and uplifting, with a melodic score that encourages audiences to embrace change and rediscover their authentic selves at any stage of life.

DiPietro began writing the play at age 90 and, now 95, is preparing to see his work staged before a live audience.

“I’m thrilled to bring this musical to life in such a dynamic way,” DiPietro said. “The themes of resilience and second chances resonate deeply with so many people, and I believe this show will inspire everyone who experiences it.”

The professional cast features performers from across the tri-state region, including Phil Zipkin of New Hope, Pa.; Libby Kane of Doylestown, Pa.; Jim Morris, Jim Petro, and Jennifer Fischer of Hamilton; Charlotte Caldejon of Lawrenceville; Reba Holley of Pennington; and Neil Devlin, Cassaundra Reed, and Brenna Peerbolt of New York City.

The creative team includes director and producer Ruth Markoe of Lawrenceville; composer and musical director Lois Josephson of New York City; choreographer Laura Ghaffoor of Hamilton; set designer Shawn Simmons of Hamilton; lighting designer Kitty Getlik of Hamilton; sound engineer Eric Collins of Trenton; and costumer Melissa Rittmann of Ewing.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, April 3, and Friday, April 10, as well as Saturday, April 4, at 8 p.m. Matinee performances will be held Saturday, April 4, Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m.

All shows will take place at Kelsey Theatre, located on Mercer County Community College’s West Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Tickets are $26 for adults and $24 for seniors and students. They may be purchased online at kelseytheatre.org or by calling the Kelsey Theatre box office Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at 609-570-3333.
