As spring settles into Hopewell Valley, a series of upcoming 5K races are set to bring hundreds of residents together — not just for exercise, but to support local schools, families, and community initiatives.
Over the next few weeks, three events in Pennington and Hopewell Township offer opportunities for runners, walkers, and families to get involved, each with its own mission and community focus.
Hopewell Valley Central High School 5K
Saturday, April 18 — Hopewell Valley Central High School
The season kicks off April 18 with a family-friendly 5K and 1-mile fun run at Hopewell Valley Central High School.
Registration and bib pickup begin at 8 a.m., followed by a 1-mile fun run at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K race/walk at 9:30 a.m. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages, with awards for top finishers across a wide range of age groups.
Proceeds from the event will support senior activities for the HVCHS Classes of 2027 and 2028.
Organizers say the race is designed to be welcoming for all participants — whether competitive runners or families looking to enjoy a spring morning outdoors.
Miles for Malcolm
Saturday, April 25 — Pennington Montessori School
The following weekend, the fifth annual Miles for Malcolm returns to Pennington Montessori, combining a 5K with a full slate of family activities including kids’ runs, face painting, and live music.
Hosted by Tara and Kim Wildszewski in honor of their son Malcolm, the event supports the SUDC Foundation, which raises awareness and funds research into Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood.
Registration opens at 8 a.m., with kids’ fun runs beginning at 9 a.m.
Organizers note that while SUDC is a leading cause of death in young children, it receives no public funding — making community events like this a key source of support for affected families.
“Complete the Loop” 5K
Saturday, May 2 — Rosedale Park
Kicking off May, the Lawrence Hopewell Trail will host its first-ever “Complete the Loop” 5K and fun run at Rosedale Park, inviting the community to celebrate and support the nearly completed 20-mile trail system connecting Hopewell and Lawrence Townships.
Participants can choose between a timed 5K or a more relaxed, family-friendly fun run.
The morning will include a pre-race warm-up, music from a live DJ, and a post-race medal ceremony, along with opportunities to connect with local organizations and nonprofits.
Proceeds from the event will support ongoing efforts to complete and maintain the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.
A season of community runs
While each event has its own focus — from supporting students to raising awareness for a rare childhood condition to building out local trail infrastructure — all share a common thread: bringing the community together.
Whether aiming for a personal best or simply enjoying a walk with neighbors, the next few weekends offer multiple chances to get outside and take part.
