Local Children Donate School Supplies to Trenton Area Soup Kitchen in HPL Program

by Mary Galioto

The Hopewell Public Library celebrated the close of this year’s child-run service project and summer reading program,”Every Hero Has a Story,” on August 19th with an impressive haul of new school supplies collected over the past six weeks to benefit the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (“TASK”).

Those children who signed up for the reading program this summer, at the Hopewell Public Library (“HPL”), received information on how they could be a hero in their own community by working to help others. The service project kicked off, on July 1, with a group of Hopewell children decorating an outdoor donation receptacle.

On August 24th, Hopewell kids assembled 35 new backpacks stuffed with the donated supplies and delivered to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen in time for distribution to students prior to the start of the school year.

The HPL and project coordinators want to thank all those who donated supplies, backpacks, time, and space, making the library’s first summer community service project an astounding success.
