The 107th annual Mercer County 4-H Fair will return to Howell Living History Farm on July 25 and 26, bringing together agricultural traditions, family activities, competitions and community exhibits for one of Mercer County’s longest-running summer events.
Hosted by Mercer County 4-H and Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County, the free fair welcomes both exhibitors and visitors from across the region.
Admission and parking are free, although organizers encourage attendees to bring a non-perishable food donation to support Rutgers Against Hunger.
The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 25, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at Howell Living History Farm, 70 Woodens Lane in Hopewell Township.
Something for the whole family
Visitors can enjoy a full weekend of activities including livestock shows and judging, 4-H exhibits, farm tours, hayrides, pony rides, archery, musical performances, magic shows and demonstrations.
Organizations including the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County, the Mercer County Wildlife Center Friends and the Mid-State Beekeepers Association will also offer exhibits and educational displays.
Food will be available throughout the weekend, including homemade ice cream, Jersey Fresh produce and other fair favorites.
Saturday’s schedule includes an opening ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Show Tent and a traditional country dance featuring a live string band and caller beginning at 6 p.m.
Showcase your talents
In addition to celebrating the work of Mercer County’s 4-H members, the fair invites residents of all ages to enter projects in its Open Division exhibit hall.
Youth and adults may submit projects completed within the past year in categories including photography, arts and crafts, gardening, clothing, baking, woodworking and many other creative endeavors.
“Every year the 4-H Fair displays the talents of our residents, who inspire us with their creativity and hard work,” Mercer County Executive Dan Benson said. “We’re proud to continue this cherished community tradition, and we welcome anyone who wants to submit their own work to the fair.”
Projects will be accepted on Thursday, July 23, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Howell Living History Farm. In addition to judging by experts, fairgoers will vote for their favorite exhibits on Saturday, with People’s Choice winners recognized on Sunday.
