As the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby make their way north, Mercer County alerts its residents that it is preparing for heavy rain, a tornado watch until 10pm* today, and potentially flooding until 2am tomorrow. (updated as of 1:30pm Friday 8/9)
Our Mercer Count Office of Emergency Management is in a state of Enhanced Monitoring and is actively coordinating with New Jersey Office of Emergency Management and with our local municipalities, universities, and hospitals to ensure readiness and to coordinate potential responses. The Mercer County Transportation Department is prepared to close flood-prone roads.
Residents are urged to take the following steps to prepare:
- Stay Off the Roads – Prepare to shelter in place. Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Stay off bridges.
- Prepare a Kit – Including a water supply for at least three days, flashlight and a battery-operated radio in case the power is out.
- Have a Plan – Stay away from windows, be prepared to go to your basement or an interior area of your homes or workplace. Have an emergency contact who is not in the area, so that if your family is separated they can call that person to let them know they are safe.
- Stay Informed – Be sure to tune into the news and local weather service.
